Description

You asked for it and now you're getting it -a skimo race at Red Lodge Mountain! Grab your touring set up (alpine, tele, or splitboard) and give it a go on one of three courses designed to be fun and challenging for all abilities.
New to uphill travel? Keep it simple with the Vertical course -a straight shot up Lazy M where only the ascent is timed. The Vertical Course features 1,900ft of elevation gain over 3.5 miles.
Want to try your hand at skimo? Take on the Short Course -an intro course with skinning and boot packing ascents and fun descents. The Short Course features about 2,200ft of elevation gain over 4.25 miles. You'll be timed from start to finish.
Ready for the challenge? Take on the Long Course and find yourself with multiple skinning and boot packing ascents and challenging descents as you travel around some of the best terrain on Red Lodge Mountain. The Long Course features approximately 4,550ft of elevation gain over 6.5 miles. You'll be timed from start to finish.
We're proud to be part of the 2024 Big Sky Skimo Cup! See how you stack up against other participants. All registered participants will be automatically entered into the Big Sky Skimo Cup.
BONUS: If you don't already have a season pass, a full day lift ticket is included in registration so you can ride the lifts all day after the race!
There is a mandatory pre-race meeting at 6pm at the Pollard Hotel. If you absolutely cannot make the meeting, you can attend virtuall but must let us know in advance.

Red Lodge Mountain Uphill Policy
The Red Lodge Randonnee Races are a special event. Outside of this special event, please always adhere to Red Lodge Mountain's uphill policy and routes. Please see below for details:
Access for uphill travel (hiking-to-ski) on Red Lodge Mountain is a privilege, please be respectful of these rules and be safe. Should too many incidents occur we will have to consider suspending access during our operating season for a period of time. Text Uphill to 844-928-4336 for important messages about closures and/or restrictions to uphill travel. Our Uphill Policy is in effect during our operating season (opening day – closing day). Outside of this time-frame, Uphill Travel is not restricted and at-your-own-risk.
POLICY CHANGES
>>Uphill Travel is permitted between the hours of 4:30pm and 9:00am.
>>Uphill Travel Pass or single-use tickets are required and must be worn in an easily visible location.The Uphill Only Pass will be included with any purchase of a 2022-23 Season Pass or 6-Tix. All users will need to sign a waiver and obtain their Pass and reflective armband in person at the Ticket Office or Grizzly Peak Outdoors.
>>Uphill Only Passes ($50) and Uphill Day Tickets ($20) are available for purchase at Grizzly Peak Outdoors and the Ticket Office during regular business hours.
ROUTES
There are two required uphill routes (indicated on the map in green): >>on lookers left: Show Off Alley to Chicken Trail to Lazy M to Grizzly Peak Summit
>>on lookers left: Show Off Alley to Otto Bahn. As Otto Bahn passes Ladies Aid, move to lookers right and continue from Otto Bahn to Turnpike to Midway Chalet.
>>All travel PROHIBITED on closed trails, any run with snowmaking equipment present, all terrain park features and the following routes due to potential winch cat grooming (indicated on the map in black).
RULES & REGULATIONS
>>STEER CLEAR of any runs with snow making equipment. (High-voltage electrical + high-pressure water lines = ). Do not ski over hoses or power cables. >>ALWAYS check the snow report page on our website prior to heading out. It will have pertinent information regarding avalanche control work &/or closures. >>LOOK for the flashing red light on our Billboard as you turn off of Highway 212 and on the building by the lower parking lot with the Uphill Information Board, which indicates when uphill travel is prohibited. If the light is on, then Uphill is closed for the day. >>STAY ALERT to what’s going on around you, especially equipment, machinery, other skiers & riders. Move out of the way of snow cats and snowmobiles. >>LIMIT your uphill travel, to no more than 2 people abreast. >>LEAVE your dogs at home. Unfortunately, some irresponsible dog owners have forced us to make this rule. >>PLAN AHEAD and know that conditions change quickly. Temps can be sub-zero, especially with wind, and will get colder when the sun goes down. >>Uphill Travel is BACKCOUNTRY SKIING. There are many unmarked hazards. The area is not patrolled. Avalanche danger exists. If you need rescuing, call 911. >>BE SEEN and wear reflective clothing, especially in poor lighting. >>NEVER GO ALONE.
Please be aware of our uphill travel lights, located at the mountain sign and lower mountain pump house. When these lights are flashing, hiking and uphill travel are CLOSED until further notice.
