Course Marshal of Lincoln Presidential Half Marathon on 4/5/25. Race Starts at 7:30am at 6th & Washington.
If you’re working at an intersection number between Miles 1 – 7, please arrive at your post no later than 7:15 a.m.
Those assigned to intersections from Mile 8 – 13 may arrive at their posts no later than 8:00 a.m. (The first runner will reach Mile 7 about 8:05 a.m.)
Race Course closes at 11am
Your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of the runners (and yourself). Be friendly but firm with drivers. Just like a crossing guard, you should stand in the intersection with your hand up to stop traffic then wave the runners through. You may allow traffic to pass when there is a gap between runners. Use your best judgment and common sense: if, for example, a car refuses to slow down, get out of the way and alert the runners to the oncoming vehicle. Do not engage in an argument with an angry motorist. Larger, more heavily traveled intersections on the course will be overseen by the Springfield Police Department. (Those assigned to an intersection on 5th Street between Dodge and Jefferson should instruct runners to stay in the far west lane which will be marked with cones).
