Along the side of the trail will be 16 obstacles including the signature Ninja wall. The obstacles are designed to test speed, strength, agility, balance and stamina. This race will be chip timed with awards for overall and age group finishers. Experience a new challenge over Independence weekend with this fun and physically demanding race.
Beastlake Obstacle Course Family Fun Run - 8:45AM
The Family Fun Run is a scaled down version of race. It is 1.5 miles in length and contains 7 obstacles. This run is designed for people who are new to obstacle course racing, families who want to participate with their children. Basically anyone who wants to try a new fitness experience. 2025 OBSTACLE COURSE OVERVIEW & RULES (Updated June 30, 2025)
1. Military crawl. Crawl under a 20 feet long 18” high rope and pvc pipe obstacle.
2. Spider climb. You must climb up the net, go over the crossbeam and down the other side to successfully complete.
3. Tire agility drill. New and Improved. Plywood has been cut to fit and bolted to the tires. Instead of stepping through them, you will hop from tire to tire, with a couple of mini trampolines spaced in between them. To successfully complete, no foot touches
4. Hay bale rope swing. Climb atop an approximately 6 ft hay bale, advance to the next hay bale and slide off the second hay bale. New for ‘25 the rope has been lengthened and hay bales spread further apart. Instead of jumping from first to second hay bales, you will need to swing.
5. Jungle Gym Rope Obstacle with Rings. Traverse the rope rings between two trees. Based on feedback from past participants, we have added an additional ring. If you drop and touch the ground before reaching the last ring, you must complete a penalty exercise
6. Mud crawl or Water bucket carry. New for ‘25. Feeling adventurous, try the new 20 ft mud crawl. Or, if you prefer to avoid the mud, you can choose to carry two water filled buckets the 20 ft length and back. (5KOC only).
7. Sand bag lift. Lift the sand bag over the vertical pallet (appx. 54” high). Choose the 100 lb. sandbag and you only have to lift it over one. Three times, if you choose 50 lb bag. (5K OC only)
8. Water slide. This is the only optional obstacle. You can run down the hill if you prefer to stay dry,but the waterslide is the fastest way down the hill.
9. Tire flip. Choose the large tractor tire and flip it once or a truck tire 3 times.. (5KOC only).
10. Footwork agility drilll (5K OC only). Similar to the past tire agility drill. You must step through a series of ropes attached to a PVC grid inches from the ground. This year there will be two identical rope courses. You can choose the routine course or to be soaked with supper soakers manned by the cheer team as you step through the ropes.
11. Over under—climb over two sets of pallets and under 24” 2x4’
12. Slanted steps. Modified for this year. 4ft long and 8ft long slanted steps. Jump from side to side without touching
13. Hay bale mountain. You must climb over three hay bales. Two form the base with one stacked in the middle. Approximate height is 12 feet. Good news. The finish is downhill. Also, a rope is attached to help all athletes summit the hay bale mountain. Can’t climb over. You know the drill by now. Complete a penalty exercise.
14. The Floor-less Room. Similar to the spider jump on American Ninja warrior, competitors must use their arms and legs pressed against plywood walls to cross an 8 ft wall section without touching the ground. Walls are slightly angled to give all athletes a chance to successfully complete the obstacle. If your feet touch the ground, you must complete a penalty exercise.
15. Warped wall. The wall retains its same shape but now stands 10 feet high. The climbing rope has been removed. The new 10 ft height instead of 14 ft. affords most competitors the opportunity to summit the wall as originally designed. This is now a required obstacle. You may opt to skip it but must complete a double penalty if you don’t attempt it.
Rules.
Competitors are strongly encouraged not skip obstacles. Doing so misses the thrill and spirit of the competition. However, if there is fear of heights or injury, competitors are allowed to skip an obstacle by completing a double penalty. Any obstacle attempted but not successfully completed requires a single penalty exercise. Any obstacle skipped requires double penalty exercises. No penalty is assessed for skipping the water slide. No penalties are assessed on the 1.5 mile family OC.
Penalty Exercises:
15 jumping jacks.
15 Push ups
15 burpees.
15 box jumps (only available at ninja wall where hay bales are in place near the wall to assist with this exercise option.
