WEATHER CONTINGENCY PLAN
In case of inclement weather (severe winds, rain, etc.), the Race Director reserves the right to postpone the race start, reduce the race length or cancel the race for the safety of all participants. The Race Director shall consult with the USAT official regarding this decision.
If it is determined that the weather causes a safety risk for participants, the Race Director shall first opt to postpone the start of the race. If after one hour, the weather is not clear, the race director may opt to reduce the course length by removing one or more than one of the legs of the course. The Race Director shall notify the Safety Director to activate the communications network and notify all volunteers and law enforcement officers of the change. If 2 hours pass and weather conditions have not been resolved, the Race Director may opt to cancel the race to protect all participants, volunteers and staff.
In any case, the race shall not proceed until all athletes and race staff have been informed of the race changes.
Options to be considered:
A - Postpone the start time until the weather permits.
B - Eliminate the swimming portion of the race and proceed with the run only.
C - Postpone the race for one day (to Sunday), if volunteers, facilities, permitting
agencies, etc. agree.
