Description
Welcome to the 2025 West Point Youth Triathlon! This year's race is NOT a TOUGHKids event or a USAT Sanctioned race. The race is just-for-fun race with no podium awards to introduce kids to the sport of triathlon. All athletes will receive a t-shirt and a finisher's medal. The race will be held on the 16th of August 2025 for ages 4-14. There are three different races - one for kids aged 4-6 and one for kids aged 7-14, and one for kids aged 2-3 for a "Parent and Me" mini triathlon. The race will fill up quickly, and it is always a wonderful community event!
Parents, please consider volunteering to support the youth race or joining us for the 35th Annual West Point Sprint Triathlon on Sunday August 17, 2025 at Camp Buckner West Point, NY. Register at: https://runsignup.com/westpointtriathlon.
The athlete's guide with information on this event as well as the Sunday sprint triathlon will be published at a later date.
Event Details & Schedule
The transition area will open at 1200 (12:00 PM), all of the kids events are on Saturday, 16 August 2025.
The "Parent and Me" 2-3 year old toddler race will start at 12:40. The 4-6 year old division will begin at approximately 1300 (1:00 PM). The 7-14 year old division will begin once the last 4-6 year old athlete has crossed the finish line.
2-3 year old division: All participants MUST have a caregiver with them at all times. Swim-6-8 yards paralleling the shore (can walk the whole way), Bike - 0.15 mile (training wheels, strider bikes, and walking the bike if it's not your day are ok!), Run - 25 yards. If your toddler decides that they want "up," the caregiver can continue to carry your child for the duration of the race. We want to have kids have a good time, so this is a no pressure race.
4-6 year old division: Swim – 10 yards, Bike – 0.25 mile (training wheels and strider bikes are okay), Run – 50 yards. One parent is allowed to be helper during all events. The "swim" is in water approximately 1 foot deep, most kids are able to walk/run the entire distance. Minimal swimming experience is required.
7-14 year old division: Swim – 100 yards, Bike – 1 mile, Run – 0.75 mile. The swim is across open water. Athletes should be comfortable swimming a consistent 100 yards without breaks or assistance. Lifeguards will be on site and kayaks/paddle boards will be in the water for safety and assistance if needed.
We want to have kids have a good time, so this is a no pressure event for any of these three races.
All events will take place within the grounds of Camp Buckner on a closed course.
