Theresa Bonner has done fundraising for us in the past. First, she shaved her head and raised $1,200 for the beneficiaries. Then she and her friend Sarah Wolf walked across NJ, raising over $8k for the families of Steps Together. Now she is back with her friend Carina Gonzalez to raise even more money for local families in need of financial support!  

In memory of Theresa’s friend Melissa Reina, she wants to make this fundraiser BIGGER than ever before.

This year, these two adventurous women are planning to raise $15K to help as many of the Steps Together families as possible. They hope to set a series of financial goals and reach their ultimate goal before the end of the summer. Each time they reach a goal, they'll do something a little crazy to thank their donors.

Theresa is a small business owner, Somerville Councilwoman, human rights activist and mother of two.

Meet Carina

Carina is a Librarian, President of the NJLA, singer, avid gamer and mother of three.

 

 

THE MILESTONES

First Goal: $5K

$5k When donations reach $5,000, Theresa will shave her head! Again! 

Second Goal: $10K

When donations reach $10,000 Carina will be doused with ice water. 

Third Goal: $15K

When donations reach $15,000, they will walk 70 MILES! 

Carina and Theresa have already begun training for their epic 70-mile walk, so they will be prepared when the time comes. The walk will take place locally this time around. Instead of walking across NJ, they will walk 23 laps around Somerville over the span of less than a week! This way friends and neighbors can cheer them on as they pass by throughout their walk. 

ABOUT STEPS TOGETHER

Steps Together is a Hillsborough based 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to inspiring our community to pay their blessings forward and support Somerset County families facing a medical crisis.

Formed in 2013, the incredible support of the community has allowed Steps Together to assist more families, provide them with greater financial relief and bring awareness to the conditions that impact them. Grants provided by Steps Together range from one-time assistance to ongoing support for a maximum duration of 24 months.

Some of the families we assist wish to remain private, others use the centralization of our website to organize the community efforts around them.

REMEMBERING MELISSA

Melissa Reina, 40, of Somerville, NJ, departed this life on Monday, April 8th, 2019. Melissa was born in Houston, Texas; however, grew up in Hillsborough, NJ, before settling in Somerville. In her youth, Melissa attended Hillsborough High School and was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton. Melissa worked for 11 years as a Telecommunications Analyst in the Global Information Technology Department at Colgate Palmolive Co. In her spare time, she worked with Steps Together and enjoyed helping others. Melissa was also a devoted mother, whose children were the light of her life.
