Description

The 2018 U.S. National Telemark Skiing Championships will bring the best telemark racers from all around the United States to Crotched Mountain to compete for the men’s and women’s National Championships. The National Championships alternate between the Eastern and Western United States. This year, Crotched and New Hampshire was selected to host, which will likely attract a contingent of Canadian telemark skiers as well. The racers will compete in three events including the Classic, Sprint Classic, and the Parallel Sprint. The head-to-head parallel competitions are especially spectator friendly and make for very exciting viewing regardless of one’s familiarity with the sport. It is expected that all the U.S. World Cup and National Team athletes will attend.

This race event is open to the general public, with divisions for the pro, civilian and junior classes. The civilian and junior classes do not require a USTSA membership. The Pro class does require a USTSA membership, which can be purchased for $90 at registration. Each class also selects winners for each gender. Entry fees are only $42 per race day for passholders and $52 for non-passholder. You could be on the podium at the Telemark National Championships this year!

Telemark racing is a great spectator sport, with a small jump mid-course and a 360 degree wrap at the bottom of the course, followed by a flat sprint section. You'll hear the cheers from the chairlift, as competitors cheer each other on as they approach the finish line. With some of the best telemark racers in the country in attendance, this is an event you don't want to miss. Come check it out this year!

All Telemark Nationals raced will be held on Crotched Mountain's fabled race trail, Meteor. From High School racing, to McConell Division collegiate races and everything in between, the Meteor trail is a legendary race venue and is sure to please all racers. See the CM Trail Map here.

Sprint Classic Details

We'll do (2) days of Sprint Classic this year (Friday and Saturday), due to the lack of snow near the Summit for a Classic discipline race. Bummer, but it's what Mother Nature is giving us.

The Sprint Classic event will start just below the top of the Meteor Race Trail, at the intersection of Sat Summit and the Galaxy trail. Meteor will be closed to the general public on race day. View the trail map above for start locations.

Parallel/Duals Details

The Parallel/duals race on Sunday is the best for spectating. The head-to-head racing action is super exciting as racers scream down the course, into the 360 banked turn and out to the Sprint section of the course.

The Parallel racers will start at the ARL start house on the skier's left hand side of the Meteor Trail, about 200 yards downhill from the Sprint Classic start location on Friday and Saturday. Duals race features a dropper-style start ramp. View the trail map above for the start locations.

AWARDS CEREMONY
An awards ceremony will be conducted daily in the cafeteria on the second floor of the base lodge. The awards ceremony times are TBD, but will follow closer after racing concludes.

EVENT SPONSORS
Telemarkdown: We are Erik and Martin Fey…the Fey Brothers. We entered the telemark/alpine touring business as backcountry skiers who came up with a novel idea — the patented nordic skiboard, which was then marketed as the Teleboard.  When customers also started asking for tele boots and bindings, we added lines of skis and  founded telemarkdown.com in 1999. We now carry Atomic, Black Diamond, Crispi, Elan, G3, Hart Skis,Icelantic, K2, Liberty Skis, Rossignol, Ramp, 22 Designs, and other great brands. Our goal was to bring clearance and closeout gear to the Tele and AT skier at the best prices possible and we also carry all the current years gear too
