Description
Join us on Saturday, October 25 for a community 5K that kicks off the best week of the year! The Neighborhood Block Party's 5K is a family-friendly fun run/walk held on paved paths through Farmstead Park and the Clinton River Trail, with just a few meters of packed dirt along the way. Whether you’re racing to compete or walking to enjoy the fall color, your participation helps support one of the biggest Halloween night events in Sterling Heights, Riverwood’s Neighborhood Block Party, a free community celebration that reaches hundreds of local families. Costumes and strollers are welcome, and every step helps make the Block Party possible.

Schedule
Check-in opens at 8:00 AM, and the race begins promptly at 9:00 AM on Saturday, October 25. Volunteers will be available to assist with packet pickup, answer questions, and accept candy donations. Post-race snacks, awards, and photos will follow immediately after.
Registration & Swag
Registration is $30 per participant and includes race entry, a numbered bib, post-race refreshments, a custom embroidered black Block Party 5K hat (see details below), and eligibility for prizes and awards. Online registration is available now at RaceSignup.com. All proceeds help support Riverwood’s Neighborhood Block Party on Halloween night, providing a safe, joyful, and candy-filled celebration for hundreds of local families.
*All participants who register at least six weeks prior to the race will be guaranteed to receive a custom black washed-style hat embroidered with the official Neighborhood Block Party 5K event logo. This premium hat is included as part of your early registration and is designed to be both comfortable and timeless—perfect for race day and everyday wear. A limited number of hats will be available after the deadline while supplies last.
Awards & Prizes
The Neighborhood Block Party 5K celebrates both speed and spirit. Awards will be given to the top finishers in four age groups: Kids (12 & under), Teens (13–17), Adult Men (18+), and Adult Women (18+). Whether you’re a first-time runner or a seasoned finisher, we want to celebrate your effort and cheer you across the line. Additional awards will be given for Best Costume, the Stroller Superstar, and the Candy Crusader.
While registration covers your race entry, candy donations are how we fuel the Block Party. Participanare encouraged to bring a few bags of individually wrapped candy to help stock the Trick-or-Treat Trail for Riverwood’s Halloween night Neighborhood Block Party. Every bag you bring helps create a joyful, generous experience for the hundreds of kids and families who attend.
Candy donations are also your ticket to winning the Candy Crusader title, awarded to the runner who donates the most candy by weight. Bring your best haul and help us make one of the biggest night of the year even sweeter.
Course Route
The 5K course is a paved loop that begins and ends at Riverwood Church, weaving through Farmstead Park and the Clinton River Trail. All but a few meters of the course is fully paved, making it ideal for strollers, families, and first-time participants. Volunteers will be stationed at all key turns, and a lead cyclist will guide the front runners. A water station is located at the midpoint, and post-race snacks await you at the finish line.

Neighborhood Block Party
Every stride supports one of the biggest Halloween Night events in Sterling Heights! Our Neighborhood Block Party!
Every year on Halloween night, Riverwood Church hosts the Neighborhood Block Party. A free, family-friendly event designed to connect our neighbors with joy, safety, and each other. From 5:30 to 8:00 PM, our church grounds and the adjacent Farmstead Park transform into a vibrant trail of themed candy stations, inflatables, live music, warm food, and welcoming faces. It's one of the largest Halloween-night gatherings in Sterling Heights, drawing hundreds of kids and families each year.
At the heart of the event is the Trick-or-Treat Trail. A fully decorated, non-scary path where kids can collect candy from volunteers in creative costumes and themed setups. Parents receive goodie bags and event info.
