Description

In celebration of the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Swimming from June 15-23, we are challenging you to 24 Miles Before Trials.  

Throughout the weeks leading up to the 2024 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials, participants can track mileage and report their weekly totals. Participants who log miles will be eligible to win 2024 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials prizes and special offers. Throughout the challenge, progress and leaderboard updates will be shared to see how you’re tracking against the competition.

Participants will qualify to receive an All Lanes Lead to Indy Gold Medal! The medals will be available to pick up during the 9 days of the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials Swimming in the AquaZone, while supplies last. By logging your miles, you will receive finisher certificate that you can show to claim your gold medal. Please note that medals will not be mailed out and can only be picked up in the AquaZone during Trials. 

 

Important information to know: 1 mile = 1650 yards | 1650 yards = 33 laps (down and back) | 33 laps = 66 lengths | Challenge = 24 miles = 39,600 yards

Does this sound like it might be a very daunting challenge for you? Please see our list of accommodations below to find the best way to approach this challenge. Swimming is for everyone and is meant to be a fun way to move your body. Find what works best for you!

Accommodations: 

  • Use any equipment to help navigate the distance in the pool:

  • Use a kickboard

  • Add a pair of fins to use to kick only (with or without a kickboard) or swim

  • Add a set of paddles to maximize your distance per stroke

  • Is pulling easier for you? Try a pull buoy!

  • You could do water walking for the distance in shallow-water pools, or put on a belt (like this one) and use it to "aqua jog" the distance.

  • Tackle the challenge "relay style" with a friend. Cheer each other on and alternate laps at first, trying to each swim a lap, and then do it together.

  • Social kicks! The ultimate dream for every swimmer to hear at a practice: kick side by side with kickboards and chat with a friend to help the miles fly by.

  • Another Scaling option: Go for 24 lengths per session or week. You can report to us how many times you achieve 24 lengths. 

*Please remember that this is a slow build. You don't need to start out doing one mile per swim if you're not ready for that. Think of this like a sofa to 5K idea. Getting started and building from wherever you are right now is huge.
