Youth Novice 3k Mass Start

Description: This race will be a 3km mass start “freestyle race” of mixed gender and include the younger (U12) or less experienced skiers in the Youth Biathlon Team (YBT) program. Youth from the 2024-25 YBT may also participate.

Course and Shooting: The race course will be a 1km loop with the start and finish being at the range. The racers will ski the 1km loop, shoot prone on standing (larger) sized targets, ski the 1km loop, shoot prone again on the standing sized targets, and ski a final 1km loop. The 1 km loop will leave the range on Terrier Trail and progress “clockwise” to Sneaking Wolf, onto Bear Paw Bypass and back to the range.

Each shooting bout will require 5 targets and only 5 allowed shots. Missed targets will be tallied and result in skiing a 75m penalty loop for each miss. Rifles will remain on the range throughout the race. Skiers will be assigned a lane when they arrive on the range for their shooting bout. Rifle supports may be used.

Adult Novice 3k Mass Start

Description: This race will be a 3km mass start “freestyle race” of mixed gender and include Adult (16+) skiers that have attended a GNC biathlon clinic or program. Skiers may opt to use classic skis, however there will be no distinction of ski technique for separate placings.

Course and Shooting: The race course will be a 1km loop with the start and finish being at the range. The racers will ski the 1km loop, shoot prone on standing (larger) sized targets, ski the 1km loop, shoot prone again on the standing sized targets, and ski a final 1km loop. The 1 km loop will leave the range on Terrier Trail and progress “clockwise” to Sneaking Wolf, onto Bear Paw Bypass and back to the range.

Each shooting bout will require 5 targets and only 5 allowed shots. Missed targets will be tallied and result in skiing a 75m penalty loop for each miss. Youth Advanced 4.5km Mass Start

Description: This race will be a 4.5 km mass start “freestyle race” of mixed gender and include the older (U 16) and more experienced skiers in the Youth Biathlon Team program.

Course and Shooting: The race course will be a 1.5 km loop with the start and finish being at the range. The racers will ski the 1.5 km loop, shoot prone on prone (smaller) sized targets, ski the 1.5 km loop, shoot prone again on the standing sized targets, and ski a final 1.5 km loop. The 1.5 km loop will leave the range on Lab Lane and then left (Clockwise) onto Bear Paw Bypass onto Moose Tracks and right onto Great Northern and back to the range.

Each shooting bout will require 5 targets and only 5 allowed shots. Missed targets will be tallied and result in skiing a 75m penalty loop for each miss. Rifles will remain on the range throughout the race. Skiers will be assigned a lane when they arrive on the range for their shooting bout. Rifle supports will not be used.

Adult Advanced 7.5km Mass Start

Description: This race will be a 7.5 km mass start “freestyle race” of mixed gender and include the adults and the older (U17) more experienced skiers in the Youth Biathlon Team program.

Course and Shooting: The race course will be a 2.5 km loop with the start and finish being at the range. The racers will ski the 2.5 km loop, shoot prone on prone (smaller) sized targets, ski the 2.5 km loop, shoot standing on the standing sized targets, and ski a final 2.5 km loop. Skiers in the Biathlon Builder Program may choose to ski with or without the rifle, for all others the rifle will remain on the range. Rifle supports will not be used for prone shooting. The 2.5 km loop will leave the range on Terrier Trail, right onto Tree House Loop, right up the hill (shortcut) onto Lower Treehouse, left briefly onto Terrier Trail (2-way traffic), then left onto Sneaking Wolf, and right onto Bear Paw Bypass, to Moose Tracks, and right onto Great Northern and back to the range.
