Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans
Vision: To end veteran homelessness so that no person who has defended our homes goes without a home.
Values: Compassion, Dedication, Integrity, Responsibility, Welcoming, "Can-Do" Attitude, and Individualized Care
Mission: To empower at-risk veterans, and their families, to become self-sufficient, productive members of their communities.
Hero Homes Project
Every dollar donated to MSHV through the Miles for the Military 5k will directly support Hero Homes, MSHV’s sustainable, long-term solution to end veteran homelessness.
• Hero Homes is located within neighborhoods with close proximity to transportation, employment opportunities, services, shopping, recreation and socialization.
Goal: Foster a community that honors and respects our veterans.
• Our housing is for Veterans and their families. MSHV will have onsite services such as our Freedom Commissary, pet therapy, clinical supports, and more.
Goal: Offer comprehensive support services to aid in the transition to permanent housing.
• Our housing and Veterans are ideal neighbors, contributing to meeting community needs and goals.
Goal: Reduce veteran homelessness in the DuPage Area and collar counties by 50% within the next 5 years.
MSHV is seeking to build Hero Homes with a grant from the Illinois Housing Development Authority. This grant would finance 90% of the project! This challenges MSHV to fundraise for the other 10% of the project to fill in the gap. Imagine this once in a lifetime opportunity. We aim to fill the gap to turn our affordable veteran housing dream into reality, and to ensure that funds are raised to provide services at this project location for decades to come.
We urge you to continue joining us in the fight to end veteran homelessness by donating to Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans through the Miles for the Military 5k today.
