Why do we walk?
We walk for the babies and families who are admitted each year to Bronson's NICU. In 1998, my water ruptured at the end of my 22nd week of pregnancy. My daughters were born at 23 weeks and back then, their prognosis was grim. Our daughter Katrin passed on the 12th day; she remains in my heart to this day. Our daughter Rebecca was in the NICU for 104 days. She graduated from Western Michigan University in 2022 and does incredibly well considering how early she was born.
Currently, I work as the Parent Liaison in Bronson's NICU supporting families with babies admitted. This is the birth plan that no one chooses. It is so difficult to leave your baby even though the staff are amazing. We walk to provide to support, to help and encourage families through this difficult journey.
