We save lives. And you can, too. Join the fight against suicide with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention - Louisiana Chapter. We are so proud to partner again with the Crescent City Classic 10k's Run For It Program for the 2026 event!
About us: The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention - Louisiana Chapter (AFSP Louisiana) is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. We create a culture that's smart about mental health, and with your help, we can make sure no one feels alone. We're saving lives in Louisiana - and you can join the fight!
Our Impact:
Prevention Education: Since July 2024, AFSP Louisiana has trained over 17,000 youth and adults in mental health and suicide prevention through programs like AFSP’s It’s Real: Teens and Mental Health and AFSP’s Talk Saves Lives.
AFSP Louisiana’s Prevention in Every Parish initiative to bring suicide prevention education to every Louisiana parish is going strong - as of October 2025, we’ve presented in 24 parishes and have plans to train over 75,000 youth throughout the state. Thanks to you, you've trained youth and faculty at Jefferson Parish Schools, Renew Charter Schools, Ben Franklin High School, Metairie Park Country Day, Chapelle High School, and more! Learn more about our free prevention education programming at afsp.org/Louisiana.
Research: In 2025, AFSP is funding over $8 million in research to help us find better ways to prevent suicide. Thanks to supporters like you, AFSP continues to be the largest private funder of suicide prevention research in the world. AFSP Louisiana is also part of a cohort to study the impacts of climate change on youth mental health. Learn more about our groundbreaking research at afsp.org/research.
Advocacy: Over 450 AFSP Louisiana volunteer advocates use their voice to demand more for mental health and suicide prevention at all levels of government. Each year in May, AFSP Louisiana advocates meet with state legislators in Baton Rouge and congress in Washington D.C. to discuss policies that strengthen mental health and suicide prevention. Learn how you can use your voice at afsp.org/Advocacy.
Loss & Healing: AFSP Louisiana connects loss survivors with trained volunteers who offer a supportive connection through our Healing Conversations programs and International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day events. Our extensive collection of resources, postvention toolkits, and guides help loss survivors on their grief journey. Find support or learn more at afsp.org/Loss.
