Typically Spinal Cord Injury Awareness is when a family member or friend is diagnosed with a spinal cord injury. Until that moment, you really don't grasp all the body systems that are affected. Doctors tell you that you have 1 year to make progress and then you learn to live with it. They prescribe therapy that works on the parts that do work and not on engaging the parts that aren't.
When Alex had his spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma in 2009, we had no one in the spinal cord injury to reach out to. Anything available was for adults. Rise Again is an organization that gives 100% of donations to individuals with spinal cord injury across the USA. We are proud to also offer support to direct family members to the resources they need. Rise Again has a network of connections and is thrilled to see our grant recipients reach "Beyond Expectations." Our son, Alex, is a shining example of reaching goals that the doctors did not believe were possible.
